Artist Statement
Art is the basic construct of my life. I have a restlessness which subsides while I am painting. I primarily work with oil paints on birch board. Painting on wood gives me the ability to layer additional material to the work; in these pieces, sheet metal and nails.
My recent work consists of landscapes and dwellings depicted by geometric forms on constructed boxes.
The patchwork of metal encroaches on the organic simplicity of the wood, just as the clusters of dwellings encroach the vast landscape. Human presence is a constant dichotomy: intriguing and threatening, beautiful and garish.
This series explores my increasing interest in architectural and natural forms. My passion for vivid and saturated color continues to be the driving force of my creative expression.
